Problems in the Development and Use of Oral Poliovirus Vaccine.

چکیده
I have spent a great part of m y life in the pursuit of knowledge about the natural history of poliomyelitis and in the development of vaccines that may give m an the power to eliminate this disease as a source of human misery. On this occasion I have, therefore, chosen to present to you not a detailed analysis of isolated observations, which are already available for criticai evaluation in the scientific literature, but rather a review of some of the problems that had to be solved and m y interpretation of the assembled facts which are the basis for the expectation that poliomyelitis may now be eliminated from many parts of the world. The following basic facts in the natural history of poliomyelitis are of fundamental importance in guiding our attempts completely to eliminate this disease:

Alarm of Circulating Wild Poliovirus and Of Vaccine-Derived Poliovirus in Middle East Countries as a Potential Risk for Re-Emerging of Polio in Iran
Poliomyelitis is a highly infectious viral disease which is mainly transmitted via contaminated food and drinking water by human feces, especially in situations of poor hygiene and sanitation (1). This disease is caused by 3 types of wild poliovirus (WPV) (types 1, 2 and 3), and immunity against one type does not create immunity against other types. In our country according National Immuni...
متن کاملProduction and Characterization of a Monoclonal Antibody Neutralizing Poliovirus Type 2
Monoclonal Antibodies (mAbs) are used for biomedical research, diagnosis, treatment, production, and the quality control of biological products. mAbs are also very helpful in poliovirus research studies because it is still one of the major public health problems in developing countries. The main objective of this study was the production of mAbs against Poliovirus Type 2 (PV2) to be prepared an...
متن کاملPoliovirus Particles do not Form in Preinfected Cells with Reovirus
Background and Aims: Inhibition of viral growth in coinfected cells with two different viruses has been described. This phenomenon known as viral interference can occur in several virus host systems such as interference of enterovirus infection on poliovirus vaccine strains. In this study we superinfected reovirus infected HeLa cells with poliovirus to determine if poliovirus can replicate in s...
متن کاملPrimary immunodeficiency diseases (PIDs) is a diverse group of diseases, characterized by a defect in the immune system. These patients are susceptible to recurrent respiratory infections, gastrointestinal problems, autoimmune diseases, and malignancies. In most cases, patients with primary immunodeficiency disorders have genetic defects and are monogenic disorders that follow a simple Mendelia...
متن کاملReversion to the Neurovilurent Genome Sequence of Polio Vaccine Virus Isolated from Community-Acquired Meningitis
Neurologic complication associated with the use of live attenuated oral poliomyelitis vaccine is uncommon, but vaccine-associated paralytic poliomyelitis in recipients or contacts has sometimes been reported. We report here a community-acquired aseptic meningitis case and the genetic investigation of the isolated poliovirus type 2. The results of the genetic analysis indicate that the mechanism...
